The Russian women's team took first place in the team event at the European Boxing Championships in Belgrade, a NEWS.ru correspondent reports. Three representatives of the Russian national team won gold medals on Sunday, April 28.

Yulia Chumgalakova won a gold medal in the up to 48 kilogram weight category, Darima Sandakova in the up to 70 kilogram division, and Elena Gapeshina in the up to 81 kilogram division. Seven Russian women won silver medals.

During the award ceremony for Yulia Chumgalakova, the Russian anthem was turned off. After the anthem was switched off, the spectators in the stands continued to sing it. Chumgalakova herself burst into tears. According to the organizers, the anthem was switched off due to technical reasons.

Competitions in Belgrade are held in 13 weight categories for men and 12 for women. The decisive fights for men will take place on Sunday; nine Russians will box in the finals. The tournament will end on April 28.

The Russian team competes at the European Championships with national symbols. Boxers will receive $15 thousand for winning the tournament, $10 thousand for silver, and $5 thousand for bronze.
